The Sea Within

The Sea Within it is a photo-series on the Mediterranean born out of the desire to reflect, as a person and as a photographer, on my identity and my roots. This series is not about telling of the big events, social and war related, that we witness everyday, what it intends to do is instead a sort of “Mediterranean diary”, through images.  A narration and a survey that stem from the everyday life of common people.

The Mediterranean is to history the greatest communication channel that ever existed. Point of contact between the East and the West, not one Sea but an overlapping of Seas, along with a line of civilizations stacked one upon the other. Yet the Mediterranean is sometimes forgotten, obscured by a modern European culture that sees it as line to patrol in order to keep out illegal immigrants.

The intention of this series is to narrate this territory through a collection of images, a travel diary of what could be, and perhaps already is, a single indistinct country enclosed within the Mediterranean horizon.
